The Whipping Boy, Chapter 5

Jemmy and the prince have encountered a couple of rough fellows.  Billy describes Jemmy and the prince as "two sparrows.. trimmed up in fancy rags?"  Explain Billy's description of Jemmy and the prince.  What words would you use to give the same description?

What Billy might mean is that they look like people dressed up in fancy clothes. In other words what that means are two men dressed as royal people that live in castles. In a second meaning, you can say they look like bids with fancy feathers. In a third meaning,he might mean they might look like they came from Paris.and also,he might mean they look nice because there not in rags.

  2. #24 I think that Billy means that they are small and weak. When he says they are trimmed up in fancy rags he means that they are wearing nice clothes. Since Billy and Cutwater are big and tough but they are probably wearing old dirty clothes, and Jemmy and the Prince are small kids who have nice clothes, they may be jealous of them. The words I would use to describe Jemmy and the Prince are like a delicate butterfly and they wear clothes with pizzaz.

  3. #9 I think Billy meant two sparrows with trimmed rags by they were in the middle of nowhere and had fancy clothes. The words I would use are some lost kids with fancy clothes.I also think billy meant they were in the middle of nowhere and looked like they came from a castle. But they were from the castle and Billy and his friend did not know.I think they were rough because they tried to take Prince Brat and Jemmies stuff.

I think what Billy meant by two sparrows with fancy trimmed rags was that they where in the woods with fog late at night and they were wearing fancy clothes! The words I would use would be naughty old gumbags! Hold-your-nose Billy and Cutwater might also mean they were wearing nice clothes in an old place. I bet they were keeping Jemmy and Prince Brat because they want there stuff.

  5. #16 I think Billy was saying that they dressed all fancy. Billy and Cutwater were all strong and bigger than them but they might be wearing dirty clothes, and they might be jealous of Jemmy and Prince Brat dressing all fancy. Also I would describe them fancy, elegant, and frilly.

  6. #27 I think Billy meant that the Prince and Jemmy are small little kids because a sparrow is a small bird so he is making a comparison. Billy also said that they are fancy dressed meaning they are rich.

I think Billy called them sparrows in fancy rags because sparrows are small and fast, just like Jemmy and Prince Brat. The kids got out of the castle quickly and safely. He said "fancy rags" because they are out in the fog and they are wearing fancy clothes from the castle. If I saw two kids running around in the fog, I would describe them as crazy little sly foxes in breeches. I would also yell at them and tell them to go HOME!!!

    1. I think Billy meant by two sparrows as there so fancy and rich. 2. Jemmy pulled it off pretending being a prince. 3. Billy and Clearwater are robbers and mean and rude, there very weird. 4. Billy was fouled by Jemmy and Jemmy did a A+ job being a fake prince. 5. I think Prince Brat think he did a good job.

I think that they were small and in fancy clothes. I would say look at these fellows with fancy clothes. The fellows they ran into weren't very nice. When they described them, they were not pleasant. When I they came I knew Jemmy had a plan.

I think they call sparrows because they are small childrens also a
sparrow is small. And because they are in the forest by them self.
And wearing fancy clothes from the castle.
Billy think that the childrens are with out protection and he can hurt them very easy. It's very scary!!!!!!

    2. The thesis statement is that sentence or two in your text that contains the focus of your essay and tells your reader what the essay is going to be about. Although it is certainly possible to write a good essay without a thesis statement (many narrative essays, for example, contain only an implied thesis statement), the lack of a thesis statement may well be a symptom of an essay beset by a lack of focus. Many writers think of a thesis statement as an umbrella: everything that you carry along in your essay has to fit under this umbrella, and if you try to take on packages that don't fit, you will either have to get a bigger umbrella or something's going to get wet.

i think billy is homeless that is why he made fun of them and if i were billy i would say that ''why are you dressed in fancy rags .''then prince brat and jemmy would be commanding me to bow at price brat . because they don't what to get in any trouble or billy would not [never] let them go or trun back and go back to the castle and then jemmy will get a least 30 or 50 wacks because they ranaway because the king would prople go look for price brat and jemmy so they can come back to the castel and everything will be the same or jemmy is back on the streets and may be pricen brat would save jemmy to tell the king to put jemmy back and he will behave .

Billy thinks that Prince Brat and Jemmy are 2 abandoned kids and they found some fancy clothes.I also think Billy called them say look it here we have here little birds.Billy said that because he saw them alone so they where lonely. That is why billy called them trimmed up in fancy rags.

  15. #15 I think Jemmy didn't have a good life befor he was the whipping boy.Now that he is in the castle I think that he stays because he gets good meals and doesn't live in the sewer.Jemmy is weak but really cares about is that he is living better than he was in the sewer. If he hadn't gone to be the whipping boy then I think that he could of died in those sewers.

  16. I my words of Billies description about the two boys is like this. So they are in very unusual clothes that most of the town does'ent wear expect the king. Also that Billy thinks that Prince Brat is very foolish, funny ,and cost a lot of money.
